Chevy Truck Month: How Much Can the Chevy Silverado Haul?
November 06, 2019 At Landers Chevrolet in Joplin, Missouri, we are about as happy as a pig in a mud pit for the all-new 2020 Chevrolet Silverado Heavy Duty to be on our lot. The all-new Silverado HD is more powerful, capable, and technologically advanced than ever before. All that is great, but the number one reason to buy a heavy-duty pickup is for the hauling capabilities, so let’s dig into that.
Let’s start off with the bed. The maximum cargo volume is 83.5 cubic feet. That’s a lot of cubic feet! But does anyone really know what a cubic foot is or normally measure with that unit? No. So let’s break it down. 83.5 cubic feet is about 625 gallons. That’s a lot of liquid. Could you imagine having 625 gallons of milk in the back of your truck? That would make you a very successful dairy farmer! Let’s keep breaking this down. We’re doing a lot of breaking it down, but I promise this won’t turn into a 90s rap song. One gallon of milk weighs about 8.6 pounds. That would mean that the 625 gallons of milk in the back of your Silverado HD would weigh 5,375 pounds! That’s way too much for any one person to carry, but it’s not too much for the Silverado!
The maximum payload of the 2020 Silverado HD is 7,442 pounds. The payload amount is the amount of weight a truck can carry in both passengers and cargo in the cab and bed. So if you wanted to haul around your 625 gallons of milk in the bed, you could drive and still have a hippopotamus sitting in your backseat , and the 2020 Silverado HD could handle it all with ease.
Now here’s the biggest number of them all: the max trailering capacity. The 2020 Silverado HD can tow 35,500 pounds! Ok, this is going to be fun. If you were a really successful dairy farmer, the Silverado could tow 4,128 gallons of your milk for you. That’s awesome but what else can the Silverado tow? Well, I’m glad you asked. Below are a list of objects that the Silverado can tow without breaking a sweat:
- The anchor of a cruise ship – 25,000 pounds
- Tyrannosaurus Rex – 14,000 pounds
- An elephant (or four) – 8,800 pounds each
- The tongue of a Blue Whale – 6,000 pounds
- Six 2020 Chevrolet Suburbans – 5,600 pounds each
- Fifteen 2020 Chevrolet Sparks – 2,300 pounds each
Now you’re familiar with how much you can move with the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD ! As long as you’re not planning to tow the Golden Gate Bridge or a NASA Space Shuttle, the Silverado HD can handle it! Are you ready for the Silverado HD to tackle your next job? Come see us at Landers Chevrolet in Joplin, Missouri, and take home this powerhouse truck for yourself today!
