Since 1926, drivers have been hitting the open road on Route 66! Heck, they even wrote an entire song dedicated to this. The famous Route 66 highway has experienced almost a century’s worth of travelers, adventure seekers and your dreamers. Although Route 66 technically no longer exists, in our beloved state of Missouri, you can discover some pretty interesting stops along the old way. Keep on reading to see what awaits our Missouri friends on Route 66.

Missouri Stops along Route 66:

The World’s (second) Largest Rocking Chair – No, we can’t make this stuff up! This chair was built in 2008 and it quickly rose to on of the typical “Americana” attractions.

Meramec River US 66 Bridge (Eureka) – Originally this bridge was built in 1900. It features a three span Warren Deck Truss bridge, built with triangular beams used to support the bridge, which was patented in 1848 by Warren. In 1983 the town was unfortunately evacuated and quarantined but no worries. The bridge remained.

Big Chief Hotel – Currently, this place is called Big Chief Roadhouse. This place wasn’t just a typical hotel, it was actually a cabin hotel. This cabin hotel had 62 cabins each with its own garage and hot and cold showers. Pretty advanced for the times. This place was known to be an amazing venue and dance hall. Back in 1949 the restaurant closed down and cabins were demolished shortly after. In the 1990s the restaurant was reopened for business.

66 Drive-In Theater – This historic drive in dates back to 1949, though it closed in 1985 due to the world being overtaken by home video. In 1998, it was reopened and shows movies every weekend now.
