MyChevrolet App Launches Innovative ‘Vehicle Locate’ Feature
March 26, 2019
Since 2012, Chevy’s My Chevrolet phone app has been helping the owners of Chevrolet cars, trucks, vans and SUVs do more with their vehicles, including giving them the ability to start, turn off, lock and unlock their vehicles, as well as receiving alerts about service appointments, recall information and more.
Recently, GM launched a new feature for the myChevrolet app that promises to make it more useful than ever: the innovative ‘Vehicle Locate’ update, which will help owners keep tabs on their vehicle, right from their phone. The technology promises to help owners in several ways, including sending automatic text alerts to friends and family when their connected vehicle enters or exits an owner pre-set boundary area, arrives or departs from a pre-set address. The app can also be used to pinpoint the location of a vehicle down to the square foot, even when it’s on the go.
While setting up the Vehicle Locate system, Chevy owners can create boundary areas as big as a 20 mile radius, all the way down to a specific address. Then the vehicle owner can set up to 10 people who receive an automated text alert when the vehicle enters or leaves that designated area.
“At Chevrolet we aim to make our drivers’ lives easier through smart and purposeful technologies,” said Alejandra Gonzalez, product manager, Remote Services, Chevrolet. “Vehicle Locate provides both drivers and their loved ones with peace of mind in a variety of different drive-related scenarios.”
A press release from Chevrolet suggests a few scenarios where the Vehicle Locate function could be useful, including:
The Connected Commuter – A working professional who regularly notifies family or friends once they have left work or are nearing home. Vehicle Locate eliminates the need to send a text by automatically sending out a notification.
The Concerned Parent – When teens start driving, it can be a constant point of worry for any parent. To help minimize worry, parents can work with their new drivers to receive automatic alerts when the vehicle arrives at school or when it leaves a designated radius.
The Modern Dater – Blind and online dates can be exciting, but the idea of meeting up with a stranger can also be somewhat concerning. Instead of regularly texting friends and family members updates on whereabouts, daters can have their vehicle automatically send out a text once it has left the planned restaurant or once the vehicle has arrived back at home.
The Truck Loaner – Truck owners often get requests to let friends borrow their vehicle to help move or transport large items. Vehicle Locate can help the owner keep tabs on the truck and anticipate its return.
