Getting Back into the Swing of Things by Celebrating July 4th
In the spirit of getting back into the swing of things after such an unsettling year with the Covid-19 pandemic, it is high time to celebrate the birth of this wonderful nation with a down-home July 4th celebration. We at Landers Chevrolet Cadillac in Joplin, MO would like to help get everyone back into the fire-cracking mood with some great ideas about how to get down Joplin-style and celebrate our nation’s independence.
THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE: Before we break out the ice chest and fire up the grill for some good eats, let’s take a moment to consider what we are really celebrating. Most Americans have not sat down and actually read the Declaration of Independence. But if it weren’t for this historically significant document, we’d more than likely not be able to spend the day grilling or lighting fireworks, and definitely wouldn’t have had the day off. It is the day the colonists broke free from British rule and transformed the colonies into a nation of their own accord and freedoms. So let’s take a moment to show our children and explain what this holiday truly means.
VISITING A NATIONAL LANDMARK OR HISTORICAL SITE: Along with the growth of this nation, there is a multitude of fascinating historical landmarks and sites that remind us of its growing pains. No matter where you live in this beautiful country, there is certainly a site of historical importance nearby. If you’re itching for a road trip, Missouri is rich in history that includes Civil War battlegrounds, national landmarks like St. Louis Arch, state parks, and war memorials.
LAST BUT NOT LEAST, FIREWORKS! The kids would never forgive us if we forgot about the fireworks! The City of Joplin Fourth of July Celebration with fireworks begins at 9:45 p.m. and will be viewable on the east side of the Missouri Southern State University campus. It is encouraged to set up as if you were at the drive-in movies. Tune into radio station 88.7KXMS for a curated music experience that will play alongside the fireworks If you are outside the vehicle, be sure to stay in front to ensure social distancing from other vehicles.
